Relying on cardiovascular activities alone for fat loss and muscle gain is a big mistake. While cardio has its place in every fitness program, a review of effective bodybuilding programs will enable you to find one that produces results fast.

Building muscle has a number of benefits. Primarily, you’ll increase your body’s ability to burn excess calories and fat with every pound of muscle you gain. Even at rest a muscular body is able to burn more calories than one with a higher fat percentage. When you perform cardio only, the calorie burning pretty much stops as soon as you’re finished exercising. Muscle building keeps on working for you even after your workout is finished.

It’s not difficult to convince the average man to add muscle building activities to his workout. Most men want to be more muscular than they currently are anyway. Women, on the other hand, often fear lifting weights and would rather not even know how to build muscle. They don’t want to get bulky and often shy away from anything resembling a bodybuilding program.

Again, that’s a mistake because it’s virtually impossible for a woman to gain a lot of muscle mass - many men have enough trouble with that, especially when they tend to be on the skinny side. What gaining muscle mass will do is result in a lean physique that burns off fat much like a furnace. Men and women both can realize greater fat loss when they follow a good bodybuilding workout program and eat a clean diet at the same time.

Many experts believe you can gain about a pound of muscle per week. If you’re losing a pound or so of fat at the same time, you’ll start to notice positive changes in your appearance within a few weeks. However, keep in mind that the bathroom scale may not change much. As you continue to gain lean muscle over time, you’ll continue to burn more and more calories naturally as a result of this positive change in body composition.

More important than the way you’ll look once your chosen muscle building program is underway is the way you’ll feel. It’s likely that your entire outlook on life will change for the good during this time period. Increased energy, better mood, sharper mental focus and an overall feeling of strength are just a few of the side effects you can expect.

Often a problem at the start of any self-improvement program, motivation will soar to new heights as you see the amazing results that are possible when you follow a good plan. You’ll benefit from what many refer to as a snowball effect where success builds upon itself and continues to grow.

Although there are numerous bodybuilding programs to choose from, simply picking a sound plan and sticking with it will yield incredible results for most people willing to put forth the effort.
