If you cook using more flavor and spices, you may be able to cut down on the size of your portions. One spice that is not healthy in large quantities and that actually makes you consume more is salt. Just about any other spice, however, from garlic to hot peppers, will tend to make you feel satisfied after eating a small or moderate amount. If you expand your horizons and eat more, say, Thai, Mexican or Indian food, you’ll naturally be introduced to lots of different spices. When introducing new spices into your life, you can start out with small quantities, as this is usually all it takes to make a dish much more flavorful.

Perhaps the biggest single obstacle to losing weight is the habit of consuming lots of empty calories every day. While it’s fine to treat yourself once in a while, if you typically eat fried foods like chicken nuggets or french fries, sweets like cookies, candy bars or pastries or drink soda, you’re getting lots of empty calories. These foods and beverages contain almost no nutrients, but they are high in calories. They’re also likely to have trans fats, which are unhealthy in many ways.

Developing the right habits to lose weight doesn’t have to be hard. It just means you have to be aware of what you’re doing and look for the best strategies to help you to lose weight. This way you’re not doing things that will sabotage your diet or exercise program.
