There are lots of things that factor into having good health and most of them are pretty straightforward. So many people already know what they should do to feel and look good but have a difficult time putting what they know into consistent use. This why the true secret to being healthier is putting the kind of principles we will be talking about in this article to use every single day. Simply drinking water is considered an excellent health tip for all these days. The nice thing regarding this bit of advice is that it’s a simple and inexpensive thing to do. For some reason people don’t do it, which is the only problem with it. To ensure you are drinking plenty of water you should ideally carry around a supply of water as much as you can, regardless of whether you’re in the gym, at work or you’re driving to somewhere. You could also replace any cold beverages that aren’t so healthy, like sugar laden energy drinks or soda, with pure water. Getting a filter is a good idea if you’re not too sure of the quality of the water in your home. The old advice given by the health experts was to consume less fat, however these days the more sophisticated advice is to simply stay away from bad fats and only eat good fats. As you might expect, the unhealthy fats are those that you find in fast food, junk food and deep fried foods. Lots of oils, like olive oil, coconut oil, fish oil and flaxseed oil contain healthy fats. Supplementing these things or adding them to your cooking is a good way of taking them. Other sources of healthy fats include many kinds of nuts, pumpkin seeds and avocados. Excessive consumption of the fats found in animal products, like dairy and organic meats isn’t good, but in moderation it’s okay. Try not to consume any trans fats, like hydrogenated oils.

While you know that healthy foods are better for your system than candy or other junk but the size of your portions matters just as much as the quality of the foods. Cutting down on your portion size accomplishes two things: it reduces your caloric intake and reduces any harmful effects that the unhealthy foods you eat could be having on your system. Naturally you don’t have to pay much mind to the number of salads or green veggies you eat but those are not the types of foods that encourage overindulgence anyway. It is salty foods and carbohydrates like pasta and bread that are the worst because those are the foods that we always want more of. Learn to deal with moderate portions and resist the urge to reach for more helpings.

Many of the actions you can take to get healthier will start paying dividends quite quickly. Exercise, for example, can start giving you more energy soon after you begin your new program. Just from eating healthier food and losing a few pounds you will start to feel a lot better and it can prevent mood swings. These reasons are just a few of why it is suggested that you choose to be healthier right now.
