Do you think you have a possibility of losing your good posture someday?

There used to be a time when people lose their posture as they age but since the dawn of computers, even young people show signs of deteriorating postures.

Why does that happen?

There are other bad posture-enforcing activities that we do, aside from sitting in front of the computer for long hours at a time. These motions would need our back to be bent or curved forward. Asa result, our back muscles become overstretched and the chest muscles become too tight overtime. The reason why hip and lower back problems develop is because of muscles like quads and hamstrings that tighten up.It is strongly advised that you see a doctor first to make sure there are no serious conditions before you do these exercises.

Now is the perfect time to check on how you see yourself and how you regard others. While standing, ask a friend to take a photos of you front on and another one on your side. Stand up as you normally do so you’ll see in the picture what your posture really looks like. When you examine the pics, front-on, draw a line from your nose, right down through the centre of your body to the floor (a plumb-line); and another (side-on) from your ear, down the side of your body again to the floor.

Looking at the pictures now, check on these features:

* How is the positioning of your head? Is it leaning too far forward or on one side?

* How about your shoulders? Are they tipped forward as well? Or is one side lower than the other side?

* Are your hips thrusted forward too much as well? Are either side of it the same height or is one higher than the other?

* Check on your back this time, is it flat or is it curving forward?

* And what about your feet? Is it sloping outwards or inwards? If it is sloping either way, try to have it checked with a podiatrist.

How can you remedy this? Here we have three simple exercises for posture improvement.

1. For upper back & head:Stand tall head up and simply draw the shoulder-blades down your back towards the floor. As soon as you do this exercise, you’ll feel relief of tired neck and shoulder muscles almost immediately. Remind yourself to do this several times a day “it’s that easy “ and I guarantee that in a couple of months, you’ll improve your posture.

2. For Lower Back:Try stretching your hamstrings - all you need to do is throw your leg up on a chair, place hands either side on the chair and lean forward. If you cannot get your head to within 1/3 meter from your knee, you have very tight hamstrings which are a big problem for posture.

3. For Core Strength Exercises: This exercises called Hundreds: On your back, lie on the floor. Raise your head and shoulder blades off the floor with legs raised at an angle of 45 degrees. Straighten your arms and pump it up and down. Do this every day until you get to 100 pumps.

And do the oldest trick in the book, take care of your body. Always check on your posture while sitting and not slouched. Hold your head high while walking and don’t look down. Get doing these posture exercises and they will help you improve your posture. You’ll feel good and look great in no time at all. Good luck!
