Running to lose weight almost sounds old fashioned with so many new gimmicks and machines coming out every year. But millions of folks are still finding this very simple but intense activity to be one of the best ways of losing weight and getting into better condition. You can do running nearly anywhere and you can do it all your life, as there are people who do it who stay fit enough into their sixties and beyond who keep doing it.

One thing that is very important in a running program for getting the best results, is to run at different speeds. To make things a lot more interesting, and challenge your body more, you should always mix things up. Do what is comfortable when you begin, but then, once you have endurance, the program will begin for real. Ideally, you should alternate among three types of runs, easy ones, those that focus on speed and those that focus on distance. You need to build up stamina along with speed, but you need to do them at different times, instead of together. The easy runs will give your body a break so you don’t overdo it.

Another problem that people have is starting a running routine, and then giving up too soon. Another problem is being too motivated which can cause other problems. It is possible to get injured if you do too much, which is a common problem for most people getting started.

People that experience an endorphin rush or what is called a “runner’s high”, can believe they have no limitations. Everybody can build up their staying power by starting out at a slow pace and running a little bit more every day; by doing things gradually, you can improve without injuries.

Running, and succeeding at it, has a lot to do with whether or not you like the sport or not. It is important to be dedicated to running in order to improve at it as time progresses.

If you consider running nothing but a chore, you’re not going to be able to keep it up for very long. Running should be given a chance; try running for a few months before you give up on this form of exercise. Instead of perpetuating your attempts at running, if you know that you do not like this form of exercise, find something else that you like to do instead.

Running is only one way to lose weight, so now you should know if it is the right way for you. There is a very ancient activity that a lot of people enjoy, and that is running, which will benefit your health unless you can’t do it because of a health condition or disability. Running can help you stay fit, lose weight and even help you reduce stress and relax.
